The semi-final line-up for the Stranger Cup has now been confirmed and includes two teams from outside of the FNB Priaulx League.
In Group A, it was The Captains who finished top of the group with an unbeaten record despite coming up against four teams from the FNB Priaulx League. Whilst the final group standings suggest qualification was comfortable for The Captains and UCF Sylvans, this was far from the case. Northerners still had an opportunity to gain qualification to the semi-finals when they hosted The Captains in the penultimate group match, but it was the away team that claimed a hard fought 3-2 victory at Northfield to ensure that Northerners failed to progress out of the group stage and that The Captains would finish top of the group and secure a home semi-final. In the final match of Group A, Vale Recreation hosted Rangers at the Corbet Field and it was the home team that claimed a 1-0 win, which left Rangers at the bottom of the group.
Group B was also closely contested, with four teams still battling for the top two places as the last group matches were played. The first of these three matches, resulted in the Guernsey FA Under 18 squad being eliminated after a 3-2 loss to St Martins. Despite beating both Rovers and Belgrave Wanderers, the Guernsey U18 squad also lost to 2-1 Manzur, and finished in third place in the group. The penultimate match, involved Rovers hosting St Martins, knowing that a win was required to retain any chance of qualification for the semi-finals. However, it was the away team that claimed a 3-1 victory, a result that ensured the final group match between St Martins and Manzur would determine who finished top of the group and secure a home semi-final. In another closely fought match, Manzur came away with a 3-2 win, which ensured top place in the group, whilst St Martins claimed the final qualification place for the semi-finals.
The semi-finals are:
The Captains v St Martins AC 6th May @ Blanche Pierre Lane
Manzur v UCF Sylvans 5th May @ Northfield
The final is scheduled for Wednesday 17th May at The Track.
