The Guernsey Football Association is delighted to announce the dates for the BWCI ‘Festival of Football’, which will be Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th August 2020.
The ‘Festival of Football’ will replace the annual Mini Soccer Festival, which had originally been scheduled for this month and would have again seen teams travel to Guernsey from Jersey and the UK. The on-going restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic meant it was not possible to stage the popular event in the normal format, but the ‘Festival of Football’ will see up to 500 local children aged 7-10 enjoy the opportunity to participate over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Guernsey FA Chief Executive, Gary Roberts, commented that;
‘Being able to host the ‘BWCI Festival of Football’ is fantastic news, and certainly not something we were expecting when Guernsey entered into lockdown in March. Although the Festival will be a little different this year, we have no doubt that the local clubs and players will enjoy participating as part of the return of football in the island. This is a great news story for local football and on behalf of the GFA, I would like to extend our gratitude to BWCI for the on-going commitment and support provided to local football, and especially this year in enabling us to provide this opportunity to so many children.
After missing three months of football, it has been pleasing to see football resuming in the island and the ‘BWCI Festival of Football’ will be a really good way for all of the young players to begin the new season. We are looking forward to the weekend and preparations are already under way to ensure a great experience for all involved.’
BWCI’s Managing Partner, Diana Simon, added:
‘We are delighted to be able to support the GFA to put on this festival as it gives so many children an opportunity to celebrate the return of inter-club mini football. Our thanks go to the GFA for their hard work in putting this together at short notice.’
