Potential upsets in this seasons Guernsey FA Cup

FOOTBALL clubs in Guernsey will once again be mindful of potential upsets in this season’s Guernsey FA Cup ahead of the draw for the first round...

Twenty-six teams are competing for the Rossborough Insurance FA Cup, and will find out who will face each other in the first round at the draw being held at the Corbet Field on 2nd November.

The competition is open to all senior teams – including those from outside the Priaulx League – and is being sponsored by Rossborough Insurance for the second year, after the company was named as the new sponsor of the Guernsey FA Cup last year.

‘The competition is going from strength to strength and Rossborough’s continued support is invaluable. It adds prestige to the Guernsey FA Cup, and helps us invest in grassroots football,’ said Guernsey FA chief executive officer Gary Roberts.

‘With two more teams vying for the Rossborough Insurance FA Cup this season, I’m expecting the first round to be very competitive. There is also the potential for upsets as we progress through the rounds, and when the Priaulx League clubs enter the competition.’

Ian Stewart, managing director of sponsor Rossborough Insurance Guernsey, will join the Guernsey FA’s Chairman, Chris Schofield, in overseeing the first-round draw. Clubs will be assigned numbers that will be drawn out of a bag.

‘As a supporter of local sport, Rossborough Insurance is delighted to sponsor the Guernsey FA Cup for a second year. It’s the premier competition in the island’s football fixtures, and it’s great to see more sides competing – including a team from Alderney for the first time. We wish the Alderney Nomads and all the other clubs the best of luck,’ said Mr Stewart.

The first round of the contest is due to begin in November, with the quarter-finals and semi-finals scheduled for March and April respectively, which will be followed by the final in May.
