2022 Deloitte Corbet Cup and Shield Finals

The Deloitte Corbet Cup and Shield finals took place on Thursday 12 May following a competitive nine-month long league campaign.

The winners of the Deloitte Corbet Cup were Guernsey Rovers A.C. after winning 3-1 against Vale Recreation F.C.

The winners of the Deloitte Corbet Shield were Rihoys Northerners after winning 5-4 against Sylvans Sports Club in the penalty shootout, following a 2-2 draw.

The under-12 tournament had over 125 players across the two divisions with eight teams playing against each other overall.

The league began with all teams playing against each other in a round-robin basis. The teams were then split into two groups with the top four teams competing for the Corbet Cup and the remaining four teams competing for the Corbet Shield. To determine the draw for the semi-final, first place played against fourth place and second place played against third place for both the Cup and the Shield.

In the Corbet Cup semi-finals, Rovers won 3-2 against Ronez Northerners and Vale Recreation won 4-1 against Rangers.

In the Corbet Shield semi-finals, Sylvans won 6-4 against Bodyline St Martin’s and Rihoy Northerners won 4-1 against St Martin’s.

Alongside the Corbet Cup and the Corbet Shield, the Guernsey Football Association (GFA) has continued the delivery of its community coaching programme through primary school PE lessons, along with after-school and lunchtime clubs as part of Deloitte’s sponsorship.

GFA Chief Executive, Gary Roberts says: ‘Thanks to Deloitte’s sponsorship, we have been able to continue offering a programme of activity to encourage more young people to participate in football.

‘We have reached 19 schools so far through our community programme and over 125 children have participated through the Deloitte Corbet Cup and Shield competitions. The work that is being delivered by the GFA staff in schools to support physical literacy is invaluable, whilst the work and commitment of the many volunteer coaches supporting the Corbet Cup and Shield teams is equally as important.’

Partner in Audit & Assurance at Deloitte, David Becker says: ‘The Deloitte Corbet Cup and Shield are well-loved tournaments in the Guernsey football schedule, and they have been growing in popularity over the past few years.

‘We are privileged to be a part of this initiative each year to encourage young islanders to take part in local football and showcase their talent.’
