Nigel Gavey Memorial Trophy

On Saturday 17th March, Colin Fallaize will lead his Guernsey Under 16 group in its defence of the Nigel Gavey Memorial Trophy at Springfield Stadium in Jersey.

After claiming a hard fought 1-0 win at Footes Lane in 2017 through a Charlie Driscoll goal, Guernsey will be looking for a first away victory in several years and Fallaize gave his thoughts ahead of the match:

‘The importance of Channel Island football fixtures providing a pathway for players to aspire towards is more important than it has ever been in my opinion and therefore, it goes without question that there is great respect for today’s, and future, inter-island fixtures.

Both islands in today's environment are very keen to develop their football product further afield,  which is very positive but it must not be to the detriment of our first golden step out of the comfort of domestic football.... "Inter-island representative football". Investment in inter island representative and Club football is a topic that should be continuously discussed and ideas should be regularly debated and trialled.

Outside of schools football, today's game is the first step and first test prior to these players hopefully progressing into the senior level of inter-island competition. As such, I hope the standards both teams show today in all aspects of how we conduct ourselves is of a standard that helps the future of  inter-island competition.

I have been involved many times, at many levels, and in many roles with inter-island football and for me personally, this is always a day in football that has been and will always be the pinnacle in any season...today will be no different.

I wish Jersey no luck but I wish Jersey every success outside of playing any Guernsey team.’
