Deloitte Corbet Cup

Deloitte 14 year Partnership with the Guernsey Football Association

Deloitte Guernsey has supported youth football with the Guernsey Football Association for 14 consecutive years.

This long-term partnership benefits local competitive football through the much-loved Deloitte Corbet Cup as well as through the delivery of football activities in primary schools.

The sponsorship of GFA’s community activity programme gives local schoolchildren the opportunity to engage in football. This continues to be an important element in the GFA’s delivery strategy that has grown in popularity within the local school and football communities.

The programme includes the delivery of PE activity in primary schools for years five and six, as well as running after-school clubs for year three and four schoolchildren and special, girls-only clubs for years one and two.

The purpose of the community programme is not only to enable children to play football but also to develop the children’s physical, technical, tactical, social and psychological skills.

‘During our time with primary schools, the GFA interacts with a large number of children from different sporting backgrounds. Some young people have little experience of football but when we are delivering football in schools, our aim is to ensure that all young people have a fun and positive experience,’ said GFA Development Officer Joelle Pengelley.

The opportunities that are provided to the schools through the partnership the GFA has with Deloitte is positive in developing future aspirations for children to participate in football throughout their life.’

David Becker, Partner at Deloitte, said: ‘Helping more young people enjoy sport has been a cause close to our hearts for a long time. The work that the GFA does in schools through the community programme has grown again this year, and we are proud to play a small part in making that happen.’

The professional services firm is also the long-term sponsor of the Deloitte Corbet Cup and Corbet Shield.

‘Every season, children eagerly look forward to their Corbet Cup campaign as it is viewed as their first taste of real football. With so many players taking part in the league stages of the Corbet Cup and Corbet Shield competitions, it is a real Guernsey community occasion,’ said Guernsey Rovers coach Barry Moroney.

Deloitte’s support also assists the GFA in improving coaching standards, which reaches every level of the sport in Guernsey. This includes coach education, in-service

events for clubs and coach mentoring.
