Guernsey Veterans Vs Fleet Air Arm Veterans

A Guernsey Vets team recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory on Saturday in a warm-up game against Fleet Air Arm Vets before the Malaya Cup fixture.

Two goals from Rangers’ Chris Parrott sandwiched the goal of the game from Russell Isabelle of CF Independant, who hit a volley from 25 yards which clipped the far post on its way into the back of the net.

The Guernsey Vets squad was drawn from all six clubs in the Veterans League. The team expected to be strong at the back and were rarely threatened.

The opening goal followed a clever back heel from Ewen Beacom into the path of Pierre Jehan, whose pass was finished by Parrott.

Guernsey missed further chances either side of the interval until Isabelle struck on 55 minutes.

Five minutes later Parrott latched on to Chris Judd’s through ball and with the Fleet Air Arm defence claiming offside and showing no inclination to chase back, he took the ball around the exposed keeper and walked it into the net, which concluded the scoring for the afternoon though Guernsey continued to make decent chances.

The game was played in good spirit and the idea of a Vets representative team widely supported, which will be pursued.
