GFA and Health and Social Services Celebrate First Anniversary

The GFA and Health and Social Services have been working together for one year to offer service users weekly football sessions at Victoria Avenue

The Guernsey FA have been offering sessions for over one year now and took the opportunity to reflect on this by speaking to one of the most regular attendees, Barry, aged 73. Barry has attended the sessions in all weathers and when asked why he comes every week, he simply replied "Because I enjoy it." Barry was a keen player over 40 years ago, representing both Guernsey Rangers and Belgrave Wanderers, before the partnership with Health & Social Services Barry had not played football for over 40 years. Barry also recently attended the Guernsey Rangers 125th Anniversary Celebration evening and said "I would always consider Rangers as being 'my club.' They were the ones I played most for." We are immensely pleased that we have supported Barry and other service users through the free weekly football sessions. The sessions have had both physical, social and psychological benefits. We must also thank players from Guernsey FC who donated football boots to allow the service users access to footwear if desired.
