Rossborough Insurance Guernsey FA Cup Final 2018

The finalist for the 2017/18 Rossborough Insurance FA Cup Final are now known after Guernsey Rovers and current holders of the prestigious trophy, Vale Recreation, won their semi-final matches at the weekend.

Both semi-finals were played on Saturday, with holders Vale Rec playing against Priaulx League runners-up, St Martins. In what was expected to be a close contest, Vale Rec claimed a comfortable 5-0 victory after racing into a 3-0 lead by half-time. The second semi-final was an all Port Soif affair with Guernsey Rovers taking on Geomarine Rovers and it was the Geomarine team that started quickest and looked like causing an upset when holding a 2-0 lead going into half-time. With a place in the Final at stake, the Guernsey Rovers team came fighting back in the second half and ultimately won a close and very competitive match 3-2.

Guernsey FA Chief Executive, Gary Roberts commented:

‘The two semi-finals have typified the competition this year with a lot of close matches and some surprise results, which many would regard as unexpected. In that sense, the competition is no different to the English FA Cup and also in how it is recognised as one of the most prestigious trophies available in local club football. It is fitting that Vale Recreation will be in the final to defend the trophy, whilst Guernsey Rovers will be hoping to complete the second part of what could be a domestic treble, after already retaining the Priaulx League trophy and with the Stranger Cup Final still to come. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Rossborough Insurance as the sponsor of this prestigious competition, and whose commitment and support of local grassroots football is greatly appreciated’.

Ian Stewart, Managing Director, Rossborough Insurance Guernsey, said,

'We are thrilled to see this fantastic season culminate in another exciting final. The Guernsey FA Cup is about supporting our local community and fostering the great talent we have here in Guernsey. As our second year as sponsors, it has been wonderful to see so many great teams taking part and playing the very best football Guernsey has to offer. We are very much looking forward to the final!'

The Final of the Rossborough Insurance FA Cup Final will be played on Wednesday 23rd May at The Track, with kick-off at 7.30pm
