With the support of Ravenscroft, the Guernsey FA Girls Player Development Centre (PDC) for 5-11 year old girls is continuing to grow.
There are now over 40 girls registered in the Ravenscroft PDC, of which 27 have been awarded their free football kit for committing to a minimum of 10 sessions and are continuing to attend the weekly sessions that are held from 4.00-5.00pm at St Sampsons High School every Monday. The Ravenscroft PDC group is constantly growing with new members joining throughout the year due to the work that Joelle Pengelley is doing within local primary schools to promote this free opportunity for girls to enjoy participating in the sport in a dedicated girls only environment.
The PDC was introduced during the 2014/15 Season and is used to provide focussed coaching for girls aged between five and eleven. These free sessions are the first stage in the Girls Pathway and provide high quality age appropriate sessions that are designed to complement other football participation opportunities in local Clubs.
Guernsey FA Women & Girls Development Officer, Joelle Pengelley, commented that:
‘It has been really encouraging to see the steady continued growth in the number of girls attending the Ravenscroft PDC in recent months, which shows that the delivery of the girls after-school football clubs are having an impact and helping introduce the sport to lots of girls. We are really excited to be working with Ravenscroft and are grateful that this specific support allows the GFA to continue developing and enhancing the opportunities for young girls to get involved. We are constantly looking at ways in which we can ensure the girls are enjoying participating and attending the Ravenscroft PDC and as part of those activities we will be hosting a mini festival in March with more details being provided next month.’
