Potential upsets in the Guernsey FA Cup 2018-19

ESTABLISHED football clubs will be mindful of possible upsets in this season’s Guernsey FA Cup ahead of the main draw of the competition

With 16 teams contesting the first round proper of the Rossborough Insurance FA Cup, each will find out who they will face in the draw which is being held at the Guernsey FA Office at Victoria Avenue Playing Field on 13th December.

The competition is open to all senior teams – including those from outside the Priaulx League – and is sponsored by Rossborough Insurance for the third successive year. Of the 26 teams who entered the FA Cup, 16 remain and include familiar sides as Rovers, Sylvans, Vale Rec and North alongside the likes of St Ouen, Manzur and Rocquaine Pirates.

‘The Guernsey FA Cup is going from strength to strength and Rossborough’s continued support is invaluable as it adds prestige to the competition’, said Guernsey FA chief executive officer Gary Roberts.

‘If the preliminary round was anything to go by, I am sure there will be plenty of competitive matches in the main draw  for local football fans to look forward to, which includes the potential for upsets,’ he added.

Ian Stewart, managing director of sponsor Rossborough Insurance Guernsey, will join the Guernsey FA’s Chairman, Chris Schofield, in overseeing the draw. Clubs will be assigned numbers that will be drawn out of a bag.

‘As a supporter of local sport and part of the community for over 80 years, Rossborough Insurance is delighted to sponsor the Guernsey FA Cup once again. It’s the premier competition locally, and it’s great to see so many sides competing,’ commented Mr Stewart.

The full listing of teams contesting the FA Cup can be found at http://www.guernseyfa.com/ and the draw on 13 December will also determine the fixtures for the second round and quarter finals, with the semi-finals and final being schedule for April and May respectively.
