Football for a Fiver is Back

October Half Term

The flagship community based Football for a Fiver scheme will once again return in October half-term courtesy of the ongoing partnership between Guernsey FC Soccer School and Guernsey FA.

This highly popular community based program, is now an established part of Guernsey FA’s overall community delivery and is only possible through the continued generous support provided by Male Uprising Guernsey (MUG) and Louvre Group.

The ‘Football for a Fiver’ program was initially introduced as part of the commitment to ensure that football participation opportunities are affordable and accessible to all of the local community and from 23rd – 27th October, children can enjoy the experience of learning and developing football and social skills in a safe and friendly environment for only £5 per day. During the two years of this program there have been 50 days of this innovative scheme with an average of 91 children attending each day, which has equated to 4550 registrations, which is testament to the popularity of the concept. The sessions will continue to be delivered by Guernsey FA and Guernsey FC Soccer School’s highly qualified and experienced coaches, including Tony Vance, Colin Fallaize, Angus Mackay and Joelle Pengelley.

Guernsey FA Chief Executive Officer, Gary Roberts commented that;

‘In the first instance it is important to acknowledge the continued generous support given by MUG and Louvre Group in extending this partnership because without that support we would not have been able to deliver such an invaluable program. Over these last twelve months the specific support they have given to this program has been instrumental in helping us to deliver community engagement opportunities that have ensured football remains accessible for all of the community.

Roberts continued to outline the success of the program when adding that;

‘The program has again illustrated not only the popularity of football in Guernsey and enthusiasm that the children have to participate, but also the importance of providing that social engagement for these children. The continued growth of participation numbers in the sport is testament to what is being delivered and without question this community program has been of great influence in this regard. The Guernsey FA and Guernsey FC Soccer School are delighted that the program, has been such a qualified success from the perspective of achieving the program aim of providing opportunities for all of the community and has again seen children with a wide range of football ability having fun, learning new skills, being active and developing in a safe environment. The learning and development for these children has not only been in relation to football skills but also to the social skills of these children, which has been another important element of this program.’

Guernsey FC Soccer School founder and Director, Tony Vance, commented that;

‘We are delighted about how well received this community program has been and it proves that working in partnership with Guernsey FA, along with having the support from Louvre Group and MUG has allowed us to deliver various exciting opportunities for so many local children. The program has been another example of how we are consistently providing young children with opportunities to get involved in the sport, have fun, and develop their skills and ability irrespective of their current ability level.’

The daily sessions will be held at St Sampsons High School from 9.30am – 1.00pm and are open to children in school years Reception to Year 8.
