Watched by a bumper crowd of around 2,500 people at The Track, Guernsey boss Tony Vance made a couple of alterations to his side, with Dave Rihoy replacing Craig Young up front and Scott Bradford returned to the midfield. Dominic Heaume started on the right-side of midfield.
Guernsey made all of the early running without looking particuarly dangerous. On 13 minutes, disaster struck. From what seemed like an innocuous right wing cross, The Liverpool number 10, Dave Cooney lost his marker and peeled off round the back post to score the simplest of headers.
Once again, Guernsey rallied and with the 'Green Army' right behind them, they were not to be behind for long. shortly after they fell behind the greens had a good shout for a penalty turned down. Liverpool also had another half chance which was scuffed wide of Tom Le Tissier's goal.
Glyn Dyer won a free kick just outside the penalty area. The Liverpool right back was booked and Guernsey had a chance to draw level, but Dave Rihoy's shot was comfortably over the bar.
Island keeper Tom Le Tissier was called in to action again but was up to the challenge. Two half chances for the Greens came and went with Heaume and Dyer firing over the far.
It was only a matter of time before Guernsey equalised, and they did when Dave Rihoy cut in from the left-side squared to Glyn Dyer who's first effort was saved by the keeper but he was not to be denied as he followed up and slotted the rebound in to the net to make it 1-1.
Dyer was again involved just a few minutes later when his run and shot was saved and the follow up was headed off the line.
On the stroke of half time, Guernsey won a corner, which was taken short, and dumied by 2 players and left for Rihoy to sweep the ball in to the bottom right corner of the goal. Guernsey held out to take a 2-1 lead in to the break.
The start to the second half was dull n comparison to the rip-roaring first period. The first noteworthy action came when the a another right wing cross from the Liverpool number 7, which landed once again on the head of Dave Cooney who stooped to head home an equaliser.
With 80 minutes played, and the sides locked at 2-2, Guernsey won a free kick near the half way line, the ball was lofted in towards the head of Ross Allen, who flicked it on to Dominic Heaume who's neat touch, turn and composed finish sent the 'Green and White Barmy Army' in to raptures.
Guernsey sealed the game 5 mnutes later when the Liverpool goalkeeper failed to hold a Tom Strawbridge shot and Heaume followed up, the ball broke loose and substitute Matt Drillot was there to bundle the ball over the line.
Striker Ross Allen put the icing on the victory when he delightfully chipped in from 18 yards to make it 5-2.
It was then left to The Greens' captain Sam Cochrane to lift the FA Carlsberg National League Systems Cup Trophy.
This is the first time Guernsey have won a national competition and will now go on to represent England in the European Competition, where they will wear the full England kit.
