NLSC Quarter Final

Senior Island Coach Tony Vance has named his squad for next month’s Carlsberg FA National League System Cup quarter-final.

Vance has named 18 players this time around, including call-ups for two new players who had been mentioned as possibles in the media – Marc Laws from Bels and Jacques Isabelle of Rangers.

The full squad is:

Goalkeepers: Richard Davey (Rovers), Tom Le Tissier (Rangers)

Defenders: Darren Martin, Ollie McKenzie (both North), Joby Bourgaize, Sam Cochrane (both Bels), Tom Strawbridge (St Martin’s)

Midfielders: Alex Le Prevost (North), Glyn Dyer, Matt Warren, Dominic Heaume (all St Martin’s), Scott Bradford (Bels), Jacques Isabelle (Rangers)

Strikers: Simon Tostevin (North), Dave Rihoy, Craig Young, Marc Laws (all Bels), Ross Allen (Rangers)

Vance said:

'After the good result and performance that was achieved in the previous round, the 16 from that squad deserve to keep their places. They have all been performing well for their clubs too and are in a good shape so there is no reason not to include them.

‘But as I have previously stated I am always keen to ensure that we operate a competitive environment and that none of the players within the squad fall into a comfort zone.

‘While it would be easy to just pick only the same 16 again, I felt that it was a good opportunity to look at some fresh faces. Both Marc and Jacques deserve their chance to stake a claim, and I am sure they will both put a lot of pressure on those who are currently holding the shirts.

‘We will have now looked at 23 players so far this season and there are certainly a few other players I like, including some who I cannot pick due to the restrictions of this competition [players who have ever been on a written contract with a club and those under 19 at the start of the competition are not eligible to play].

‘All these players are in my thoughts and it maintains my belief that we do have a decent pool of players to pick from, and that competition for places is very healthy'.

The match against the Hertfordshire Senior County League takes place at the Corbet Field on Saturday 13 February with a 2pm kick off.
